West Fargo Police/City Hall Complex Approved

Posted: Updated:

West Fargo is a city on the grow and the building that houses city hall and the police department is too small. On Monday night, the city commission gave the go-ahead to an $8.5 million dollar complex that will be built near the current facility at 800 4th Avenue East.

The West Fargo Police currently have 41 officers and plan to add three more in a few months. The Assistant Chief, Mike Reitan, says with many more people expected to live in the city in the coming years, more officers and more space will be needed.

"On the police department side, we're just plain out of space," Reitan explains. "We have 27 officers working off of 5 desk positions. The cubicle area the investigators and sergeants work from, there is no space there any more."

A glassed-in entry hallway will link the city hall and police department.  Building will begin spring of 2014 and the project will be done sometime in late 2015.
