Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker Says He Will Run For A Third Term

Posted: Updated:

Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker says he will be running for a third term at the helm of the city's highest office in 2014.

He made the announcement on his Facebook page Thursday afternoon:

Fargo City Commissioners and residents of our City,

I feel that it's only fair that I should inform you of my plans for the election in 2014. Based on several different variations of support, I have decided to run for re-election in June of 2014. If elected it will be my last term. It will also give those that see an opportunity in four years to make decisions for the next election in 2018. I'm aware that there is interest in the position now but I feel it requires more time than being a part-time Mayor. I have the time to be a full-time Mayor.

With the Diversion, the new Health Facility and the new City Hall, I'd like to see these projects to fulfillment. There is also the interest in a new convention building downtown or additional space added to the Fargodome which will require a process of direction. In addition there is the plan to provide water to the Red River Valley from Garrison.

I have enjoyed your support in the past and with your support in the future, I feel this is the correct direction for the City.

Sincerely,

Dennis R. Walaker
Mayor

Walaker was first elected to the Mayoral office in 2006, and was overwhelmingly re-elected in 2010.
