Seniors Marshall Bjorklund and Taylor Braun each scored 28 points to lead the North Dakota State men's basketball team to a 90-82 victory over preseason CAA favorite Towson on Saturday, Dec. 21 inside the Bison Sports Arena.
Bjorklund's 28 points were a new career high, surpassing the 27 he scored against Fresno State on Nov. 26, 2011. It was his 10th straight game scoring in double digits. Braun scored more than 20 points for the sixth time this season.
NDSU improved to 9-4 with the victory, which was its seventh win in eight tries. The Bison shot 18-for-25 (72 percent) in the second half and 55.8 percent for the game.
Towson (7-6) was led by 29 points and 12 rebounds from senior forward Jerrelle Benimon.
Towson opened up a 30-23 lead with just under four minutes left in the first half, but the Bison closed the half on a 12-2 run to hold a 35-32 advantage at the break. Braun went the full length of the floor for a buzzer-beating layup to close the half.
The Tigers were able to battle back and take a 44-43 lead on a three-point play by Timajh Parker-Rivera with 16:27 to play in the game, but that would be the only lead Towson would hold for the remainder of the game. NDSU put together a 13-4 run capped by a Lawrence Alexander three-pointer to take a 56-48 lead.
Towson closed the margin to three at 72-69 on a Benimon jumper with 4:27 to play, but Alexander responded with a trey at the other end to spark a 7-0 NDSU run that effectively sealed the victory for the Bison.
Bjorklund was 11-for-16 shooting in the game, and Braun led the Bison with seven rebounds and four assists. NDSU matched its season-low with five turnovers.
NDSU will play at Utah Valley in Orem, Utah, on Monday, Dec. 23. Game time is set for 8 p.m. (CT).
