Innovation Hour: 1,300 Students Complete Service Projects

Posted: Updated:

Students at West Fargo High School got to ditch class to help out the community on Wednesday. Since the start of the school year, students have been brain-storming ideas for the student-led "Innovation Hour."

Groups of students designed service projects around the theme "live to give," and on Wednesday all of the dozens of service projects were carried out.

The Fargo Civic Center was one of the many sites where students helped wrap donated Christmas gifts. Organizers say students were also helping out at the Red River Zoo and all area thrift stores, just to name a few locations.

Students say the innovation hour is all about giving back, and they even made some new friends in the process.

"In each innovation hour we are all strangers, so we don't really know each other," explains Junior Brianna Faul. "So we just get to know each other and brainstorm ideas and it's really taken off and it's really very cool."

More than 1,300 students took part in the innovation hour at nearly 100 different sites around Fargo-Moorhead.
