Major Water Damage to Fargo High Rise After Small Fire

Posted: Updated:

One woman won't be staying at her Fargo apartment for a few days after a small fire set off the sprinkler system causing major water damage.

It happened Tuesday around 9:00 p.m. at 101 2nd Street S., at a high rise building.

When firefighters got there, water was running down the outside of the building over the front entrance.

The woman in the apartment on the 15th floor, where the fire happened, said she had left a candle near her bed and when she came back the pillow and bed spread were on fire.

Sprinklers quickly put out the fire in her apartment but now 15 of 22 floors at a Fargo high rise have water damage.

The apartment where the fire started also has minor fire and smoke damage.

No one was hurt.

Cleaning crews worked to clean up the mess overnight.

An estimated cost of the damage hasn't been determined.

The Fargo Fire Department responded with 16 personnel on four engines, one truck, and one command vehicle. Fargo Police, FM Ambulance, and the Red Cross also assisted on scene.

The Fargo Fire Departments reminds everyone to use caution when burning candles and to never leave them unattended.
