Panel Discussion to Feature Majority and Minority Chief Tax Counsels for U.S. Senate Finance Committee
NEW YORK, Dec. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- KPMG's Tax Governance Institute (TGI) will examine the discussion drafts issued last month by U.S. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.), which call for a sweeping overhaul of the U.S. system for taxing corporations' overseas profits, during a live video webcast on Monday, Dec. 16, from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. (ET).
The program will also look at a discussion draft from Sen. Baucus, also issued last month, aimed at reforming capital cost recovery and certain tax accounting rules.
Board and audit committee members, CFOs, tax directors and other business professionals interested in attending the program – another in a series of KPMG presentations on this important topic – can register at: www.taxgovernanceinstitute.com.
"If enacted, these proposals would have far-reaching effects on almost every U.S. company," said Hank Gutman, director of TGI, former chief of staff of the U.S. Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation, and panel moderator. "Although the prospect for near-term action from Congress may seem dim, these proposals represent the first Senate efforts to articulate specific changes. Now is the time for companies to analyze how these proposals may affect them."
The 90-minute webcast panel discussion, titled "The Baucus Tax Reform Discussion Drafts," will review the substance of these important proposals, the rationale behind them and their potential impact.
Panelists on the TGI webcast will include:
The TGI event follows two recent KPMG TaxWatch webcasts: a Dec. 3 program on Sen. Baucus' proposal on cost recovery and tax accounting methods and another held on Nov. 26 which compared and contrasted the international tax reform proposals released by Sen. Baucus with separate international tax reform proposals put forward by the Obama Administration and Rep. Dave Camp (R-MI), chairman of the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee. Replays are available for both the Dec. 3 and Nov. 26 events.
Part of the KPMG Institute Network (www.kpmginstitutes.com), the Tax Governance Institute (www.taxgovernanceinstitute.com) provides opportunities for board members, corporate management, stakeholders, government representatives and others to share knowledge regarding the identification, oversight, management, and appropriate disclosure of tax risk.
