Fire at Akins Electric Building in Moorhead

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE

A small, north Moorhead electrical building suffered fire and smoke damage after a fire tore through it Tuesday afternoon.  It happened around 12:30 p.m. at Akins Electric.

Moorhead fire fighters got a fire alarm call and were on their way, when they noticed thick, black smoke billowing into the sky off of Highway 75 and 4th Avenue North.  Crews worked on putting the fire out, but neighboring businesses that are connected to the shop also had some smoke damage.

"Pretty extensive damage to the south end of the building, there is a block wall that's in between, but there's quite a bit of smoke damage on that side."

The cause is unknown as of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. And although the shop was in operation at the time of the fire, no one was hurt.

ORIGINAL STORY

We have reports of a fire at a business, in the 300 block of Highway 75 north in Moorhead. Units arriving on scene shortly after 12:15 p.m. report heavy black smoke and a fully engulfed building.
