Road Conditions Getting Worse Through The Day

Posted: Updated:

As forecasted the valley woke up to yet another batch of winter weather this morning bringing with it wind, snow and cold temperatures.

Valley News Teams John Trierweiler and Kristi Larson spent the early morning keeping an eye the storm as it rolled in.

The snow began to fall around two o'clock this morning. Once again turning highways and interstates white. Making conditions tough for drivers.

Both departments of transportation in Minnesota and North Dakota had their plows out and in full force.

"You can never be over confident in the winter," says Jerimiah Moerke with the MN DOT, "but we just need to keep monitoring the weather crews have been out since two three this morning clearing the roads and they'll be out through the storm."

And when the snow does end crews won't be out of the woods. They'll have to battle with sub zero temperatures and wind.

"A little bit of wind actually helps clear the roads to a degree but when you have more than a certain amount of wind than you have visibility issues and drifting issues. And temperatures as it gets colder it makes it more difficult for any chemicals to work out on the roads." Jerimiah adds.

Valley News Teams Kristi Larson spent the morning keeping an eye on those roads in and around Fargo.

In the early hours the streets were slippery, and crews focused on clearing emergency routes, making roads in the neighborhoods harder to drive through.

Snow removal crews said they were concerned with the ground still being warm and with the freezing temps that are expected, because it's going to cause icy roads ahead.

They advise drivers to be cautious with the changing conditions.

Check road conditions before you travel with the ND DOT and MN DOT.
