Development Coming To South Fargo

Posted: Updated:

Changes are coming to a section of south Fargo that includes new houses, apartments, a park and businesses. It's located in an open area just off I-29 and 52nd avenue south.

A proposal for that area was just approved by the City Planning Commission Tuesday evening.

"What the planning department is trying to do is to get to a point where we have something that developer can work with, that the neighborhoods can accept, and will be a positive addition to this area." City of Fargo Planner Joe Nigg says.

But there have been 13 letters and 32 comments through emails about the project.
Some living in the area say the development is too large, and doesn't follow what the city suggested should happen with the vacant fields.

The plan would use around 60 acres for businesses.

City Commission will consider the plan in late December or January, then construction would start next year and finish in 2016. A

But at the end of the day city planners say eventually there will be something built in the vacant lots.

"It's been sitting undeveloped for a long time. Everything around it's developed, and at sometime yea it's going to be developed and it's a matter of finding some common ground, and what everybody can kind of live with." Nigg says.
