The North Dakota State men's basketball team defeated Rider 87-70 in the championship game of the 47th annual Cable Car Classic hosted by Santa Clara University at the Leavey Center on Saturday night. Senior guard Mike Felt led the Bison with 23 points.
Marshall Bjorklund scored 19 points, TrayVonn Wright added 17, and freshman guard Carlin Dupree tallied a season-high 10 points to give NDSU four players in double-figure scoring. NDSU shot 32-for-52 (61.5 percent) for the game.
NDSU (4-3) received a season-high eight assists from junior Lawrence Alexander. Bjorklund continued his efficient shooting, making eight of his nine shots.
Rider (2-4) was led by 23 points from Anthony Myles. The Broncs shot 46 percent from the floor.
The Bison used an early 13-3 run to take a 17-9 lead seven minutes into the contest. NDSU led by as many as 17 points in the first half.
Rider was able to pull within eight points at 41-33 with 16:48 to play, but NDSU responded with a 21-8 run that effectively sealed the victory. NDSU scored 49 points over the final 20 minutes.
Felt was named the Sixth Man of the Tournament, and Wright and Bjorklund were named to the All-Tournament team, with Bjorklund taking Tournament MVP honors.
NDSU will host Valley City State on Monday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. inside the Bison Sports Arena.
