Explosion Rocks Pipeline Company in Central Missouri

A natural gas pipeline owned by the Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Co. ruptured in Houstonia, Mo. late Thursday night.

The pipeline, which runs from Michigan to Texas, exploded just before midnight sending flames high into the sky.
 
People living several miles away reported feeling the ground shake and seeing the sky turn orange as flames shot up. 

Officials requested a five mile area surrounding the plant be evacuated.

Buildings in the immediate vicinity of the explosion caught fire and were destroyed.

According to reports, the Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Co. dealt with a similar explosion in 2008 in Cooper County.

Houstonia is located between Columbia and Kansas City, Mo.

No injuries have been reported.
