Green Challenge: Designer Upcycling Lisa Budeau's House - Valley News Live - KVLY/KXJB - Fargo/Grand Forks

Green Challenge Results: Lisa Budeau's House Gets Upcycled for Christmas

Posted: Updated:

Books, bed sheets and a ladder are not typical Christmas decorations, but a local "green" designer used some pretty unusual things when we challenged her to upcycle Lisa Budeau's house for the holidays. The Green Christmas Design Challenge gave her just over a week and just over $100 to use.

Leanne Sucrow owns The Green Room in Fargo. She says "upcycling" is just a fancy word for "repurposing" things.

The design in Lisa's house was a mix of thrift store finds, old Christmas decorations and things around Lisa's house that she didn't even realize would work in the design. Leanne used sweaters and belts for chair covers, books as place mats and a ladder to hang lights and stockings. The bed sheets were used as a tree skirt. Leanne says it's important to think outside of the box when upcycling.

Leanne also gave Lisa a "do it yourself" homework project. Lisa made ornaments with her daughters. They used crayons that they already had in the house and melted them inside clear glass ornaments with a hair dryer.

If you would like to see more of Leanne's work and get some ideas for yourself you can check out her studio (The Green Room) in Downtown Fargo this weekend. She is open from 12-5pm on Saturday. The store is only open every other month.

We gave our favorite green designer in Fargo a Christmas challenge. Leanne Sucrow of The Green Room is decorating The Valley Today's Lisa Budeau's home for Christmas. She was given just over a week and just over a $100 budget to do it.

Here is what you will learn:
