Fargo Fire Urges Caution if Deep Frying Your Turkey This Thanksgiving

Posted: Updated:

It's one of the tastiest ways to enjoy your turkey on Thanksgiving, however it's also one of the most dangerous.

The Fargo Fire Department urges extreme caution if you choose to deep fry your turkey on Thursday. They say you should follow these guidelines:

  • Never fry a frozen turkey, make sure it's completely thawed.
  • Only fill your fryer half way full of oil, never all the way.
  • Heat the oil to only 350 degrees and don't let it get any hotter.
  • Keep your fryer outside, at-least 25 feet away from any structures and on a level surface.
  • Always have a fire extinguisher and your phone nearby in case anything does go wrong.

Firefighters also say you should never leave your fryer or any cooking surface unattended for any amount of time.
