Students Gather to Memorialize Friends

Posted: Updated:

NDSU students, staff, and families joined together Friday at the Memorial Union to pay tribute to students they've lost since 2012.

Each of those six students will be remembered with a tree and a memorial plaque. The six trees are planted strategically around campus, at areas in which the students spent much of their time at college. NDSU Student Government led the memorial effort as a way for students to honor their friends.

"It was really an event to just remember and spread a message 'once a Bison, always a Bison'," says Erik Diederich, Vice President of the NDSU Student Government. "That's really something we live by here, and something we're practicing day in and day out with events like this."

Students memorialized were Jordan Playle, a marketing major from Elk River, Minnesota; Danielle Renninger, a marketing major from Excelsior, Minnesota; Lauren Peterson, a first-year student from Prior Lake, Minnesota; Megan Sample, an apparel, retail and merchandising design major from Rogers, Minnesota; Colby Anderson, a criminal justice major from Fargo; and Amanda Weitgenant, a music major from Ham Lake, Minnesota.
