Mapleton Students Reach Donation Goal, Principal Gets "Sacked"

Posted: Updated:

The Principal of Mapleton Elementary School went into the line of fire on Friday for a good cause.  Tim Jacobson got padded up and let students throw nerf balls at him to celebrate their generous giving to "Fill the Dome."

This year in Mapleton, the theme is "Let's Sack Hunger." Principal Jacobson agreed to get "sacked" with the nerf balls as long as the students met their donation goal. Students collected just under 900 food items to help feed families, shattering their goal of 600.

Several area schools participate in the massive, annual food drive. This is the fifth year Mapleton schools have taken part and students and staff at the school agree that it is a good learning experience for students.

"A bunch of the younger kids will learn responsibility in doing this," said Mapleton 6th grader Elijah Kirkeby. "And I also think that we do this in a way to get active with the community and helping round and about so that when we grow older we get used to kind of doing this."

The Mapleton 6th graders have been collecting food at school and will be delivering it to the Fargodome on Monday, November 25.
