The North Dakota State men's basketball team snapped Western Michigan's 14-game non-conference home winning streak on Wednesday evening, winning 83-74 at University Arena.
NDSU (2-2) shot 58.5 percent for the game, going 31-for-53 from the floor. Senior Taylor Braun led the Bison with a season-high 23 points.
Western Michigan (3-2) was led by 27 points from senior David Brown and 16 points and nine rebounds from center Shayne Whittington.
Seniors Marshall Bjorklund and TrayVonn Wright scored 18 and 16 points, respectively, for the Bison. Junior guard Lawrence Alexander recorded 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Sophomore Kory Brown scored eight points, all in the first half, and matched his career high with five assists. Wright registered three blocks for the third time in four games this season, and also grabbed six rebounds in just 18 minutes.
NDSU opened up a 17-7 lead just over eight minutes into the game and never led by less than five points the rest of the way. The Bison stretched the margin to its largest at 15 points at 62-47 on a Wright dunk with 10:01 to play.
Western Michigan pulled within five points at 77-72 with 35 seconds remaining in the game, but Braun went a perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line over the final 30 seconds to seal the victory.
NDSU will travel to Grand Forks on Sunday, Nov. 24 for a game against in-state rival North Dakota that will be broadcast on Midco Sports Network. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
