The North Dakota State volleyball team was swept by Fort Wayne on Saturday, Nov. 16 in the final regular season match for both teams at the Gates Sports Center. Set scores were 25-23, 25-15 and 25-22 in favor of IPFW.
NDSU (6-21, 6-8 Summit) was led by 10 kills and three blocks from freshman middle blocker Emily Miron. The Wadena, Minn., native hit .412 for the match to lead the Bison attack.
Freshman setter Monica Claxton recorded a double-double with 34 assists and a season-high 15 digs to top the NDSU charts in both categories.
Senior Dani DeGagne registered eight kills, and freshman Emily Minnick had seven.
Fort Wayne (17-13, 9-5 Summit) received 14 kills apiece from Hailie Ripley and Emily Spencer.
The Bison led 14-11 in the first set and were tied at every point from 17 through 23, but the Mastodons got back-to-back kills from Sarah Heckman and Somer Johnson to claim the set, 25-23.
Fort Wayne used a 6-0 run to go up 15-7 in the second set and pulled away for the 25-15 victory. NDSU was able to erase a six-point deficit in the third set and was tied at 22-22, but Fort Wayne scored the final three points.
NDSU will play in the quarterfinals of the Summit League Tournament in Indianapolis on Friday, Nov. 22. With the conference regular season schedule concluding tomorrow, the opponent and match time for the Bison are still to be determined.
