The fix puts the onus of the renewals on insurers. The administration is not requiring insurers or state insurance commissioners to extend the existing plans, but instead is allowing insurers to offer an additional year of coverage.

On 6:30 Point of View this Thursday (Nov. 14), host Chris Berg continued a multi-week segment that aims to show you how the Affordable Care Act - also known as Obamacare - will impact you and your family, including in-depth discussions with the experts.

This week Chris Berg sat down with Blue Cross Blue Shield North Dakota CEO Paul Von Ebers and ND state senator and Fargo Medical Weight Loss specialist Dr. Spencer Berry, who is also on the Health Care Reform Review Committee. The two gentlemen shared their thoughts on how the federal law is affecting insurance plans here in North Dakota, especially following the change announced this morning by the President.

Thursday morning at 11 a.m. central time, the President announced that Americans may be able to keep their individual insurance plans for one more year.

During the Feedback portion of the show, Berg fired off his opinion on the Affordable Care Act debacle. He encourages viewers to share their point of view by email (630POV@valleynewslive.com), or by texting or leaving a voicemail on the POV Hotline (701-369-3187).

Below are some excerpts of the conversation that occurred on Thursday's show. You can watch the discussion in its entirety by clicking the video above. You may also want to see part one of our "Healthcare in America" series. You can find that by clicking the link to the right of this article.

6:30 POV Host Chris Berg: "I'm assuming you've sent out these letters. Here's the guy who's the president that says it possible to reinstate those policies."

Von Ebers: "We're certainly do the very best we can to serve our customers. And as I said we would have just as preferred not to cancel the policies to begin with. We're going to have to figure out the administrative policies. It is going to be extra work. Affordable care act has given us a lot of extra work to do. And but it is the law of the land, and this announcement will respond to that as well."

-- Moments later in the conversation--

Berg: "When did you know that  31,600 people were going to lose their insurance?"

Von Ebers: "We've known for several months what the size of the issue was going to be. One thing I should say is that a significant percentage of those people would have a comparable product available. Some would not. But many of those customers would have a comparable product available under the new products required under the law. But some wouldn't. And would have to buy higher benefits, and in some cases that would be at a higher cost."

6:30 Point of View is an interactive and controversial opinion-oriented talk show on KXJB (Channel 4) in the Red River Valley of North Dakota and Minnesota.
