North Dakota State University head men's basketball coach Saul Phillips announced the addition of four high school student-athletes on Wednesday, Nov. 13, the first day of the one-week early signing period.
Jon Sobaski of Prior Lake High School (Minn.), Paul Miller of Kettle Moraine High School (Wis.), and Evan Wesenberg and Jake Showalter, both of Germantown High School (Wis.), have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their education and play basketball at NDSU. All four are expected to join the Bison in the fall of 2014.
Sobaski, a 6-1 guard, averaged 18.2 points as a junior and was a third-team All-Metro selection for Prior Lake High School. An all-conference selection the last two seasons, Sobaski led his team to a 19-8 record as a junior and scored 45 points in a game to set the school's single-game scoring record. He played for Minnesota Select on the AAU circuit.
Miller, a 6-4 guard, averaged 17.9 points, 7.0 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game as a junior last season for Kettle Moraine High School. He earned first-team all-league honors in the Classic Eight Conference as a junior and was second-team all-conference as a sophomore. A 4.0 student, Miller played for the Wisconsin Shooters club team.
Wesenberg, a 6-7 forward, scored 8.3 points and grabbed 5.2 rebounds per game as a major contributor on Germantown High School teams that went a combined 56-0 and won back-to-back Wisconsin Division 1 state championships in 2012 and 2013. Wesenberg was named second-team All-North Shore Conference as a junior and played for the Wisconsin Swing club team.
Showalter, a 6-3 guard, averaged 11.6 points as a junior and has played on the Germantown High School teams that have won 56 straight games since 2011 and a pair of Wisconsin Division 1 state titles. A first-team All-North Shore Conference selection as a junior, Showalter played for the Wisconsin Swing club team. Showalter's father, Steve, is the head coach at Germantown High School, and his brother, Zak, is a sophomore guard for the Wisconsin Badgers.
NDSU (1-0) plays at Saint Mary's in Moraga, Calif., at 10:30 p.m. (CT) Thursday. The Bison have been picked to win The Summit League after going 24-10 overall last season and returning all five starters.
