Locker Hearts Inspire with Anti-Bullying Message

Posted: Updated:

Oak Grove Lutheran School is getting a heart-warming message this week: two students are running an anti-bulling campaign.

They've turned their own experience into a inspiring message. Hearts were hung with a special message for each student.

"I've always literally though about trying to make a difference in my school and in my community." Maddy Garret says who started this campaign.

She and Ashley Segal are sharing helpful words, because they know what it's like to be a victim of bullying.

"I've dealt with that sort of stuff, and I know how hard it can be." Maddy says.

"Especially in elementary school, that was my worst year." Ashley agrees.

That's why they have cut, written on, and taped just about 320 hearts to lockers to help keep spirits up.

"Although it might of seemed bad, to me it was just names. And I knew from the start although it really hurt me from the inside, I knew it wouldn't tear me down." Maddy says with a slight smile, "So that just motivated me even more to get inspired on this topic."

But it doesn't just stop here with these hearts. The whole week they'll be wearing colors to protest bullying. It all wraps up on Friday with an inspiring message to the whole school.

"I found a good group of friends to hand out with, and they supported and protected me from the bullies, and we just wanted to share our inspiration how we got through it with other kids, to give them hope." Ashley says smiling.

Spreading their hope, with one heart at a time.

The students also put hearts on lockers in the Oak Grove Lutheran Elementary School to start spreading their anti-bullying message early.
