Fargo South advances to the North Dakota Class AAA State Championships after defeating Minot 38-28 Friday at the Fargodome. James Johannesson led the way with 313 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries for the Bruins. South will take on defending champions Bismarck next week.
Fargo Shanley fell to St. Mary's 12-10 well braving the elements on Friday. The Saints led 6-0 through the first half until the Deacons put up a field goal to cut the deficit to three. In the fourth quarter Shanley took the lead 10-6 but turnovers on both sides kept this one interesting. St. Mary's would score with 43 seconds remaining and a Deacons hail mary attempt would be intercepted as the Saints advance to state.
Wahpeton heads to state for the first time since 1998 after defeating Minot Ryan on Friday in Minot. Ryan led after the first half but the Huskies would tie it up behind quarterback Jack Christensen and take the lead on a two point conversion. Wahpeton extends that lead later in the third and hold on for the 24-17 win.
