The North Dakota State men's basketball team cruised to a 93-49 victory over NAIA Viterbo University in its 2013-14 season opener on Friday, Nov. 8, inside the Bison Sports Arena.
NDSU senior guard Mike Felt poured in seven three-pointers to lead all scorers with 23 points. Felt's 7-for-11 effort from beyond the arc matched his previous career-high and the NDSU single-game record for three-pointers in a game. The senior from Redwood Falls, Minn., came up one point shy of his career-high of 24 points.
Felt last made seven threes in a game against Centenary on Jan. 8, 2011. The feat has now been accomplished 11 times by seven players in NDSU history.
Four Bison joined Felt in double-figure scoring for the game. Senior Taylor Braun, The Summit League's Preseason Player of the Year, scored 16, redshirt freshman Dexter Werner added 12 points off the bench, and TrayVonn Wright and Lawrence Alexander chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
NDSU shot 35-of-66 (53 percent) for the game and committed just five turnovers. The Bison made 10-of-19 attempts from beyond the arc.
Werner nearly registered a double-double in his first career game, tallying 12 points and nine rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench in the second half.
NDSU (1-0) led 43-16 at halftime and scored 50 points in the second half.
The Bison will travel to Moraga, Calif., to take on mid-major power Saint Mary's on Thursday, Nov. 14.
