Freshman Emily Miron hit .737 with a season-high 15 kills and made four blocks as North Dakota State beat Western Illinois 25-21, 25-20, 25-19 in Summit League women's volleyball Friday, Nov. 8, before a crowd of 658 at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
Sophomore Jenni Fassbender added 12 kills for North Dakota State, which won for the fourth time in six matches to improve to 5-19 overall and 5-6 in The Summit League. NDSU clinched a berth in the six-team league tournament Nov. 22-24 at IUPUI.
Miron and Fassbender combined for 10 of NDSU's 14 kills in the opening set as the Bison stormed back from a 13-9 deficit with 10 straight points. Junior Lauren Cammack's kill broke a 19-19 tie before Miron connected for two in a row on a 5-0 run to reach set point.
NDSU hit .317 and held Western Illinois to a .140 percentage, the lowest by a Bison opponent this season. Freshman Hannah Jessen made a match-high 12 digs, freshman libero Emily Milligan added nine digs and NDSU got two blocks from both Fassbender and freshman Hadley Steffen.
North Dakota State hosts Omaha at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9. The Mavericks are 6-20 overall and 1-10 in the league after a four-set loss at South Dakota State on Friday.
