Army Reverses Decision to Cut NDSU ROTC

Posted: Updated:

Some great news Wednesday for those involved in the local Reserve Officer Training Corp, otherwise known as ROTC. The Army says it will postpone its decision to cut North Dakota State University's ROTC program, which serves not only NDSU, but also Concordia College and MSUM.

It was announced earlier this year that the NDSU program would be one of 13 nationwide to close, but North Dakota's delegation in Washington D.C. pushed back, citing the program's year-after-year success.

"The students who participate in NDSU's ROTC program have shown time and again why they are part of one of the best programs in the country. As soon as I learned of the planned closure of the NDSU ROTC program, I worked with President Bresciani and put pressure on top military officials to reconsider," said U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp.

The program is now on a two-year probationary period and will be evaluated again when those two years are up.
