Moorhead Mayor Race

Posted: Updated:

Tuesday is election day across Minnesota, and for the first time in more than a decade, one of  four candidates will become Moorhead's new leader.

Monday one last debate gave each mayoral candidate a chance to voice their opinions.

"If I'm elected mayor I want to have quarterly meetings with the student leaders from all three institutions, Mike Hulett reminds people, "so that I can listen and hear what your concerns are today and stay up to date with it."

Monday was a chance to share how they feel about issues students brought up.

"I think it's crucial that we have more advocacy, open door policy to the college students," Kevin Shores says, "so we can be on the cutting edge of technology and get these new ideas that you guys have to share."

They spoke on issues like parking, growth for the area, and housing options.

"A lot of people actually live in Fargo and come down here, and I would be for incentives to make sure that we have the right developments coming in, so there's adequate choices here for students." Del Rae Williams says.

But over all, they say they feel confident that everything has been done, and now it's up to the people of the city.

"It's a good feeling that at the end of the day today I will have done everything I know how to do in an election process." Mark Hintermeyer says smiling.

"The folks really should have a pretty good idea, who we are, what our background is, what our experience in public service is, and who's going to be best qualified, not just to run the council meetings but to represent the city." Hulett adds.

"You do all this work and it builds up to this one moment and then all you can do is wait truthfully." Williams adds.

All four will anxiously waiting to see who will be the next mayor of Moorhead.
