Lauren Miller tallied two goals and Steph Jacobson added another, helping the North Dakota State women's soccer team (8-9, 4-3 Summit) to a 3-1 victory over the Fort Wayne Mastodons (6-10-1, 3-2-1 Summit) Friday, Nov. 1 in the regular season finale at Dacotah Field.
With the win, the Bison secured either the three or the four seed in The Summit League postseason soccer tournament scheduled for Nov. 8-10 in Fort Wayne, Ind. The full bracket will be released Sunday, Nov. 3, by the league office.
Miller's first goal of the evening occurred just nine minutes into the match when Anisha Kinnarath fed a pass to the St. Louis Park, Minn. native, who broke away from the Mastodon defense and hammered the ball home to give the Bison the 1-0 lead. The Mastodons leveled the match at one in the 26th-minute after Gaby Romo found the back of the net.
The Bison had an answer shortly out of halftime after Steph Jacobson went untouched from near midfield and scored her first goal of the season in the 56th-minute, allowing NDSU to regain a 2-1 lead. Miller netted her second goal of the match in the 68th-minute on another breakaway opportunity, setup by Lizzie Lukas, giving the Bison an insurance goal and the eventual 3-1 triumph over Fort Wayne.
NDSU outshot Fort Wayne 13-7 and had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks taken in the match.
With the two goals, Miller now has a team-high nine goals and 23 points.
Sierra Bonham went the full 90 minutes in goal for NDSU, making two saves, to improve her record to 7-8.
The Bison will begin play in The Summit League Tournament Friday, Nov. 8 at a time to be announced Sunday.
