Former VCSU Football Player Headed Back to MN to Face Murder Charge

Posted: Updated:

A former Valley City State University student and football player is headed back to Minnesota to face murder charges.

Cedric Chappell Jr. was ordered extradited back to Minnesota at a hearing Friday morning in Barnes County District Court.  Minnesota authorities have 10 days to come pick him up.

Chappell is charged with 2nd Degree Murder and Attempted Murder for a shooting incident outside a Minneapolis bar that left one man dead and another hurt.

A criminal complaint says a fight started inside the bar, spilled out into the parking lot and two groups started shooting at each other.

Back in October, at the request of Minneapolis Police, Valley City police, the Barnes County Sheriff's Office and the Stutsman County Narcotics Task Force located Chappell on the campus of Valley City State University and arrested him.

He was taken into custody without incident.
