RedHawks Acquire Capito, Renew Options on 18 Players

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have acquired LHP Nick Capito (kah-PEE-toe) from the Traverse City Beach Bums of the Frontier League and renewed the 2014 contract options of 18 players, the club announced.


Capito, 24, has been one of the best relievers in the Frontier League over the past two seasons, both with Traverse City.  In 2013, he was 3-0 with a 0.71 ERA and 17 saves in 63.0 innings pitched.  Capito allowed just five runs on 32 hits in 40 appearances.  He struck out 65 batters and walked 22.  In 2012, Capito was 6-0 with a 1.59 ERA and three saves in 39 appearances.  He allowed 12 runs (ten earned) on just 36 hits in 56.2 innings pitched and recorded 67 strikeouts.


The RedHawks renewed the options of 18 players, meaning their contract rights belong to Fargo-Moorhead for the 2014 season.  The players whose options were renewed are:

  • 1B Keith Brachold
  • 1B Chase Burch
  • RHP Alex Caldera
  • LHP Nick Capito
  • RHP Brian Ernst
  • LHP Joe Harris
  • OF Jose Hernandez
  • OF Nic Jackson
  • C Todd Jennings
  • RHP Nathan Kilcrease
  • LHP Jake Laber
  • RHP Derrick Miramontes
  • LHP Ethan Opsahl
  • SS Zach Penprase
  • 2B C.J. Retherford
  • RHP Taylor Stanton



The RedHawks did not renew the options of RHP Danny Gutierrez, C Clint Ourso and OF Jeremiah Piepkorn and all three are now free agents.  OF Mitch Einertson played out his option in 2013 and is also a free agent.
