Planning for the Future of Moorhead's River Corridor

Posted: Updated:

The City of Moorhead and Metro Cog are halfway through an 18-month process to prepare a master plan for Moorhead's Red River corridor. On Tuesday, consultants were in town surveying the plan and people in Moorhead got the opportunity to learn about flood-related issues from 60th Avenue South to County Road 22/Wall Street.

Six informational posts were created for people to stop by to get a look at current conditions, and learn about the future for each area. The sites are listed below:

  • SITE #1 - Parking lot at intersection of 9th Avenue North & 9th Street North
  • SITE #2 - Power Plant at 6th Avenue South & Elm Street
  • SITE #3 - Intersection of 24th Avenue South & South Rivershore Drive
  • SITE #4 - Horn Park, north end of Rivershore Drive South
  • SITE #5 - End of Riverview Circle South
  • SITE #6 - River Oaks entrance, 100 River Oak Point

When the plan is complete, it will serve as a long term guide to future recreational areas in the river corridor.

"Nature trails, bike trails and cross country trails," explains Larry Anderson, Park & Forestry Division Manager. "And we want input about what they'd like to see and what they think about the placement of some of these amenities that we plan on putting in."

If you weren't able to make it to the river or the community open house Tuesday night, you can also find detailed site maps online. The link to those maps are posted to the right of this story, or on the homepage at www.valleynewslive.com, just click on the hot button.
