Fargo Passes Anti-Discrimination Ordinance

Posted: Updated:

Grand Forks will no longer be the only North Dakota city with rules to ban employment discrimination based on sexual orientation for government workers. By a unanimous vote, Fargo City Commissioners passed similar rules Monday night.

The new ordinance says the city can re-write its HR policies to include that no one, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, will be discriminated against. The change would allow city workers to take legal action against violations.

Supporters of the move are hoping to make this into a statewide trend. LGBT community leaders also plan to re-introduce an anti-discrimination bill to the North Dakota legislature.
