North Dakota State free safety Christian Dudzik was named Missouri Valley Football Conference Special Teams Player of the Week by the league office Sunday, Oct. 27.
Dudzik, a junior from Omaha, Neb., had 140 all-purpose yards and scored his first two career touchdowns on punt returns of 43 and 68 yards in No. 1-ranked North Dakota State's 56-10 win at Indiana State.
Dudzik tied the MVFC record of two punt return touchdowns by Western Illinois' Buck Phillips in 1994. He also had one kickoff return of 29 yards and made three tackles on defense.
North Dakota State scored four touchdowns on returns for the first time since 2000 against Minnesota State Moorhead. Wide receiver Ryan Smith returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown and strong safety Colten Heagle had a 35-yard interception return for a score.
NDSU, winner of 17 straight games overall, is 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. The Bison are idle this week before hosting Illinois State in the annual Harvest Bowl game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome.
