UPDATE: Unanswered questions after Pizza Corner pizzas pulled

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: FRIDAY 11:00 PM

A spokesman from the USDA got back to us late tonight about a supposed incident with Pizza Corner pizza on Wednesday in which pizzas were temporarily pulled from some store shelves. Richard McIntire, Public Affairs Specialist for the USDA, tells Valley News Live, "There was no issue. The products were released later that day. We looked into an unfounded/unsubstantiated food safety concern."

Pizza Corner's general manager says there is no problem with their pizzas, and they are perfectly safe to eat.

If you went to the grocery store to pick up a pizza today, you may have noticed some area grocery stores didn't have the Pizza Corner brand.Today, we got a Facebook message with someone blowing the whistle on Pizza Corner Pizza. The viewer was concerned after hearing something was happening at the factory in Valley City, and pizzas were pulled off shelves in the local grocery stores.

After that concerned viewer contacted us we did some digging, we spoke with the general manager at Pizza Corner several times today. He wouldn't tell us much, but he referred us to the USDA. We spoke with a Hornbachers that sells Pizza Corner pizzas, and they confirmed they pulled pizza off the shelves at, at least one store.

I then called the Pizza Corner manager back, and he confirms the USDA was there today, and they did call back a few pizza trucks. But he says the USDA didn't find anything, and insists that his product is safe. If pizzas are not back on the shelves already the general manager says they will be tomorrow. We reached out to the USDA for some answers, but we haven't yet heard back. We will continue to bring you more information once it becomes available.
