Red Cross Helping Family After Fire in Underwood, MN Home

The American Red Cross is providing a warm place to stay and other needs for a Valley family displaced from their home by a fire.

It happened at a home near Underwood, MN late Wednesday night.

Underwood Fire Chief Ardy Johansen they got the call about 11:20 to a home near the junction of Highway 35 and Highway 1 in Otter Tail County.

The family living at the home had smelled smoke and called 911.  They were all able to get out safely.

Chief Johansen says the initial investigation shows the cause appears to be electrical.  He says there is minimal fire damage but extensive heat and smoke damage.

The family living at the home was renting, it's so far unclear when the home might be livable again.
