UND begins play in the new National Collegiate Hockey Conference this weekend when they open at Miami of Ohio in the very first day of games ever for the conference.
UND begins the new venture after opening last weekend against Vermont where they picked up a win and a tie. A point of focus last week was developing special teams and finding their roles. UND killed all six Vermont power plays on Saturday and 16 of 17 for the weekend. With a step in the right direction the team is positive heading in to conference play.
"Obviously there's going to be some things we need to work on and improve on," said senior captain Dillon Simpson. "I think we've done a nice job of that this week, kind of focusing on areas we saw we need to work on. But the work ethic was there, I think we played a good weekend."
"At this point I really like our team," added junior defenseman Nick Mattson. "Guys worked really hard, they have a good attitude. Those things that we need to work on will come as we continue to gel."
Miami was picked to win the league and UND to finish second in the preseason media poll. The puck drops Friday at 7:00 pm in this weekends two game series.
