Man Arrested for Huffing Dust-Off

Posted: Updated:

FARGO, N.D. - Fargo Police arrested a man for huffing and DUI after he was found passed out in a car. Police say the man wasn't drunk, but he was under the influence.

Around 2:00 Tuesday morning, an officer noticed a car parked partially on the street and partially on the grass in the 1400 block of 34th Street South.  The man inside the car was passed out so the officer pounded on the window to wake him.

Lt. Joel Vettel says the man woke up, took a hit off a can of Dust-Off and passed out again. Other officers arrived. The man woke up a second time, inhaled more Dust-Off and then opened the door.

Matthew Jacob Eck, 39, of Fargo was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released. He was then booked into the Cass County Jail. He is facing charges of inhaling intoxicating vapors and actual physical control of a vehicle while under the influence.

Lt. Vettel says the effect huffing has on the brain can be compared to drinking a heavy amount of alcohol.
