Newest West Fargo School Named Independence Elementary

After asking for your ideas on what to name the newest West Fargo Elementary School, the school board has picked Independence Elementary.

That was the second most submitted name out of the over 280 submissions.

The new building, which is the district's 9th elementary school, is currently under construction near 40th Avenue South in Fargo and is set to open fall of 2014.

From School District:

At their regularly scheduled meeting this evening, the West Fargo Public Schools Board officially and unanimously chose “Independence Elementary” as the name for the district’s 9th elementary school.  This school is currently under construction at 3700 54th Street South in Fargo.  It is slated to open in Fall 2014, under the direction of Principal Mike Shea (currently the Principal of Liberty 5th Grade).

It's round two for the West Fargo School board as they try to pick a name for the new elementary school.

The board narrowed down 280 submissions to 16 names, to now 8 names, to vote on at the school board meeting today.  

The eight submissions include, Allegiance, Justice, Independence, Courage, Dakota, Orion, Patriot and Prairie Rose.

At the last meeting the board decided to table the vote.

The name with the majority vote among the board members will be picked for the school going in near 40th Avenue South. 

The school board meeting is set for 6 p.m. Monday, at the Leidal Education Center Boardroom.

After a little help from you, the West Fargo School Board is ready to pick a name for the new elementary school.

The board narrowed down 280 submissions to 16 names to vote on at the school board meeting Monday.  

Among the top community submissions, Justice, Independence, Veteran and Dakota. 

The Board will rank the names 1 to 16, the top three highest ranked names will be discussed in further detail. Then a formal vote will be taken. 

The name with the majority vote among the board members will be picked for the school going in near 40th Ave. South, on the 3700 block of 54th Street South. 

The school board meeting is set for 6 p.m. Monday at the Leidal Education Center Boardroom.

    Crews were called at 10:10 a.m. to a house fire at7113 Woodland Circle north of Horace. Homeowners were inside at the time, but escaped, and no one was hurt.     Beltrami Fire Department says part of a business is destroyed after an early morning fire. Firefighters say they were called out around 1:00 a.m. to a fire at the Beltrami Mall.  Crews say West Central
