Local kids giving back in a selfless way

Posted: Updated:

"I wanted to help the animals, and maybe even help them get a home that's permanent."

Ella has been a "junior" volunteer  for two weeks at the humane society.

"one of my favorites was daisy, she was very energetic and fun."

Ella does not have pets at her house, so she comes here to get her fix.

"what, you want to see the dogs?"

But tonight Ella is not volunteering she is showing her support in a different way.

"for my birthday party, I wanted to donate to the human society, so everyone bought something for the dogs and cats."

Ella  just turned 10.

"you can see the bountiful results."

And she didn't ask for gifts she wanted her friends to bring things for animals in need.

"oh they have been very excited, they were excited at the birthday party as well as being excited for tonight."

But this idea didn't start here many of Ella's friends have been "giving up" birthday gifts and "taking up" giving back to the community.

And in the end, Ella did get a birthday gift. From the humane society as a thank you.

"Ella raising money and collecting supplies is a big help too because obviously with an influx of animals we are going through supplies faster the money can be used for veterinary care, it is definitely awesome to have that kind of help."
