Jamestown Tightens Rules on Adult Entertainment

Posted: Updated:

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) - Adult entertainment in Jamestown will now be controlled by city ordinance.

The city council voted unanimously this week on new rules that regulate and limit the locations of businesses including strip clubs, escort services, adult modeling agencies and adult theaters. Mayor Katie Andersen says officials worried that there was nothing to stop such businesses from setting up shop anywhere in commercial districts.

The ordinance limits adult-oriented businesses to locations within heavy industrial areas where the property is at least 300 feet from any church, school, residence, liquor establishment or other adult-oriented business.

The ordinance also prohibits alcohol from being served in adult entertainment businesses and requires the owners and workers to be licensed and submit to background checks.
