Horse Ranch Needs Help Caring for Animals

Posted: Updated:

Charlotte Tuhy works from sun up to long past sun down on the High Tail Horse Ranch & Rescue.

That's what it takes for an operation that takes in about 40 horses a year-- nursing them back to health, then finding them new homes.

"These horses were taken in because they were starving. We have some extremely emaciated horses, but they are coming back. We're doing the re-feeding program for two of the worst ones that we just got in."

A feeding program that costs much more than just her time spent.

"To feed one horse a year we figure it costs between $75 - $100 a month."

That averages between 12-15 hundred dollars a year, for every one horse. Now Charlotte needs help, and these horses need a meal.

"Any kind of feed product we can go through in addition to high lick tubs we are using to supplement the babies."

Charlotte needs more volunteers with carpentry skills, another tractor and a snow blower, but she's made it this far with passion, companionship, and the support of who she refers to as her rock- her husband.

"I couldn't do it without him. He pitches in and helps out behind the scenes and picks up where I'm not able to finish work."

But even the strongest will needs support with a heavy burden like keeping these horses alive.

"We'll reach a point where we'll have to say no if we can't get some horses moving out."
