NEW UPDATE: Fugitive Who Hid in Cornfield Suspected In Car Theft

Posted: Updated:

The search continues for one of two suspects wanted after a motor home was stolen in Thief River Falls Tuesday, and stopped west of Mayville-Portland.

In custody is registered sex offender, Corey Roper. The second suspect, Dylan Klade is still on the loose, after apparently stealing a car.

The Tuesday chase of a stolen RV ended 12-miles west of Mayville-Portland on Highway 200.

The two suspects fled into nearby corn fields.  One of them, Corey Roper was arrested without incident, after authorities started searching.

Wayne Beckman, Steele Co. Sheriff: "He ran a few yard into the corn. They yelled at him and he came out. He said he had enough."

Reporter: "Dylan Klade slipped through?"

Beckman: "Yep. Dylan Klade we believe got down in the river bottom and slipped right through."

It's believed that sometime in the early morning hours, the suspect, Dylan Klade stole a riding lawnmower from a nearby farmstead and drove it to Lyle Grendalen's farm west of Portland. He apparently jumped off the lawnmower and stole Grendalen's car.

Grendalen told me his daughter was so upset about the suspects being in the area last night, that he left the keys in the car to make sure no one bothered to try and get in his house.

A next door neighbor says the suspect was apparently looking for vehicles at his place, before finding a car with the keys in it at Grendalens.

Corey Hanson, Neighbor: "Yep. You can see the tracks over there."

Reporter: "From the riding lawnmower?"

Hanson: "Yep."

Reporter: "Did you have any vehicles in the yard with keys in them?
Hanson: "Nope. They were locked."

Authorities say the stolen, red Pontiac had half a tank of gas and would likely have a range of around 200 miles. It's not known if the suspect had any money on him.

Reporter: "Is this guy armed and/ or dangerous?"

Deputy Conrad Steinhaus/ Traill Co. Sheriff's Dept: "We don't believe the suspect is armed and he has not exhibited any dangerous behavior at this time, other than stealing the car and running from law enforcement.

The search for Dylan Klade continues.

Authorities are searching for a red, 2006 Pontiac G-6, with North Dakota  license number: JBK-184.

That car was last seen near Clifford, North Dakota Wednesday morning, close to where it was stolen.

If you have any information, you're asked to contact police immediately.

A man on the run from police after stealing a motor home is now suspected of stealing a car.

Steele County Deputies have been looking for Dylan Klade since Tuesday morning.  He was last seen running into a cornfield between Finley and Portland, North Dakota.

Investigators now say Klade is believed to have stolen a car from a Portland area home early Wednesday morning.

A homeowner called police around 5:45 Wednesday morning to report a lawn mower parked in his yard and his car missing.

The Traill County Sheriff's Department describes the missing car as a 2006 Red Pontiac G6 4 Door.  It has North Dakota License Plate number JKB 184.

The search for Klade and Corey Roper began at around 11:00 Tuesday morning in an area of cornfields between Finley and Portland, North Dakota.

Police say the men stole a motor home and led authorities on a chase before fleeing into the fields.

Roper, a level three sex offender, who cut off his tracking bracelet Tuesday morning was captured around noon.

Anyone with information on Klade or the stolen car is asked to call police.
