Dense Fog May Have Played Role in ND Injury Crash

Posted: Updated:

One person is recovering from injuries after a crash on Highway 52, about four miles North of Pingree, North Dakota.
The Highway Patrol says Joseph Schmaltz, 52, of New Rockford, was heading South when an oncoming car merged into his lane to pass another car in the dense fog. Vladimir Zubarev, 23, of Citrus Heights, California, was driving that oncoming car. Both Schmaltz and Zubarev tried to swerve away from each other but could not avoid a crash. An ambulance took Schmaltz to Carrington Hospital for his injuries. Zubarev was not hurt. Both cars were damaged in the crash.
Highway Patrol troopers are still investigating the crash.
