Knife Incident on Cheney Middle School Bus

Posted: Updated:

It should not have happened here.

"I feel a little weird that someone has a knife, and they are trying to maybe scare people into doing stuff."

According to a student, who was there, two kids, were fighting at a bus stop, when one of them, announced he had a knife. And he could stab the other with it.

No knife was displayed and the kids got on to the bus. Not long after, the bus' engine stalled, and when the driver got off to deal with it, the two students resumed arguing. That's when the one student showed what was described as a pocket knife, shortly after that she says he threw it but it didn't hit anyone.

"I probably could have gotten stabbed or really hurt by it."

At the time, the bus was located, just two blocks away from the police department.

The police came quickly, taking the two children into questioning.

"this morning, there was an incident involving a knife on Bus 48."

Not long after that all Cheney Middle School Parents were getting a phone call.

"No students were harmed, but several students did feel threatened by the presence of a knife."

"they did state that nobody was hurt, so that took some ease off ya know any parents out there"

I did speak with a mom outside Cheney Middle School this afternoon, who told me, the school has great communication with parents, and she always feels like her children are safe.

No one from the district wanted to talk on camera, referring me to the letter that was sent home with all students.

It says the district will assess appropriate consequences to the student for his actions.

After checking with the district's zero tolerance policy involving weapons, that could include suspention or expulsion.
