Train Hits Car in Grand Forks

Posted: Updated:

A California woman is in the Grand Forks County Jail after abandoning her car on the railroad tracks on the city's north side.

Deputies say they responded to a car-train crash at North Washington and 23rd Avenue early this morning, but found no one in the vehicle. They found a woman walking a short distance from the scene and she admitted it was her SUV.

Deputies say the woman missed a curve on North Washington and wound up driving off-road in the area before getting stuck on the tracks. She says she tried to free herself, but couldn't so she got out and started walking.

The woman was arrested for actual physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

The SUV sustained serious damage both from the off road driving and being struck by the train.
