Main Avenue Crash Causes Major Backup in Fargo

Posted: Updated:

Police and fire crews responded to a crash on Main Avenue in Fargo Monday morning. It happened just before 9:00 a.m. in the 4400 block of Main Avenue.

A box truck pulling a trailer, that belongs to Moorhead Electric, was traveling west on Main, lost control and landed on several cars in the parking lot of TrueNorth Steel. One employee was inside one of those cars and was able to escape through the vehicle's sunroof.

Witnesses report the driver of the truck was laying limp and unconscious. Both were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Crews stayed on scene because of leaking gasoline and the possibility of live electric wires falling because the truck sheared a pole during the crash. Excel Energy replaced a downed pole, which caused a temporary power outage in the area.

Eight parked vehicles were damaged or destroyed in the accident. The Fargo Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident so it remains unknown at this time.

Several drivers passing by the crash were seen taking pictures with their phones. Police say a second accident happened, and a third accident between a cement truck and gasoline tanker almost occurred. The Fargo Fire Department reminds drivers that an accident scene is dangerous for the responders and those passing through it. Please focus on the road.
