Valley App of the Week: Recycling Bin

Posted: Updated:

This week's app is pretty special because it won a national competition and was designed by local students.

Recycling Bin was created by 6th grade students from the West Fargo STEM Center.

They thought up the idea last April and beat out more than 450 other app ideas from around the country.

After working with M.I.T. to refine the app, the group presented it at the National Technology Student Association Conference in Florida this summer.  Now it's available for you to download in the Google Play store.

The students wanted to develop an app to address a need in their community, in this case, making it easier for people to go green and recycle.  And it boy does it hit the mark.

"Recycling Bin" will help you to locate recycling bins nearest you, allow you to enter your own recycling bin locations to your favorites screen, and even let you to set a reminder alarm to remember when it's time to recycle.

Then tell us what you think or post your app ideas at our Valley News Live Facebook page.
