Move-In Day at MSUM

Posted: Updated:

As school began in the Northern Valley Wednesday, in Moorhead, incoming freshman took their first steps to starting the next chapter of their lives. It was move-in day at MSUM.

Like many freshman, Rachel Herbranson has mixed emotions about leaving high school and home. "I'm really nervous, but I'm kind of excited. It's gonna be different," she says.

She is excited for the new friends and experiences, and with the help of older students to help move dorm items in, her transition to a new environment should be much easier.

One of those students, Tyler Olson, says, "When you go from high school to college, things are, everything's different." Olson remembers his move-in day as a freshman, so returning any help and advice he can is important to him. "When a group of people wearing a green shirt comes and asks them to move it, they get really happy," he says.

About 1000 new freshman and 500 transfer students will be joining the MSUM community. Most of those students will be living on campus.

Mitch Johnson, Assistant Director of First Year Programs, still remembers his freshman year of college. "It's a scary time. I didn't really know anyone. I didn't know where I was," he says.

He is also helping with the transition, providing several activities for new students such as a comedian and dance party. It is an opportunity for new students to meet as many people as possible, so they can quickly feel like they are a part of the Dragon family.

Orientation sessions also began late Wednesday afternoon on campus. Classes at MSUM will begin Monday.

Students at NDSU, UND and Concordia all move in this weekend.
