Minnesota to Hold Special Session for Storm Damage

Posted: Updated:

Minnesota legislative leaders have agreed to hold a special session on September 9th to provide relief to areas hit hard by storms in June.

The session will be limited to that topic despite calls to consider eliminating taxes including one on farm machinery repairs.

House Speaker Paul Thissen says lawmakers wanted to focus on storm relief, and couldn't agree on terms for handling tax changes.

Eighteen counties were hit hard by storms, high winds and flooding in late June.

Wolverton, in Wilkin County, was one of the hardest hit areas.

Nine inches of rain fell in just 4 hours back on June 26th, washing out roads and flooding several homes.
