Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: FORT TOTTEN, N.D. (AP) - Authorities say a device that prompted the evacuation of the college on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation appears to have been a homemade weight, not an explosive.

Cankdeska Cikana Community College in Fort Totten was evacuated Tuesday afternoon after a custodian found the pipe-resembling object in a weight room. About 200 students were on campus at the time registering for classes, which begin Monday.

A police bomb squad was brought in from Grand Forks to blow up the device as a precaution.

ORIGINAL STORY: A janitor at a community college on the Spirit Lake Reservation found a suspicious PVC pipe on Tuesday afternoon and, as a precaution, called authorities.

The Grand Forks bomb squad detonated the pipe found in the weight room of the Cankdeska Cikana Community College, also known as the Little Hoop Community College, as a safety measure but say they do not think it was a bomb.

The school grounds in Warwick, North Dakota, were evacuated and because a suspicious package was found, but authorities did not find any residue to indicate it was bomb.
