BRAINERD, Minn. (AP) - Authorities say a man in a tree was killed by officers after he shot and wounded a Crow Wing County sheriff's deputy.

Officers were called to check on someone at a residence near Brainerd Wednesday afternoon. When they arrived, they found the man in a tree with a gun. Officials say the officers were able to talk the man out of the tree, but he climbed back up and shot a deputy in the arm.

Two other officers then shot and killed the man. The deputy was treated at a hospital.

Police have not yet released the name of the man who was killed, but the sheriff says deputies have had contact with him in the past.
