West Fargo Home Destroyed in Afternoon Fire

Posted: Updated:

A fire destroyed a mobile home in West Fargo Wednesday afternoon, and firefighters say it was because grease was left unattended on the stove.

Six people were in the home when a fire started in the kitchen at 1009 2nd Avenue East, but thankfully everyone got out safely.

Neighbors say they saw smoke and flames pouring from the home. Although firefighters arrived and knocked the fire out in minutes, the entire home was destroyed along with everything inside.

"They barely bought everything for their house," explains grandmother Ruth Huovinen. "They got it fixed up nice inside, they got new computer for school, everything is gone. I mean everything."

The family has three young children, and neighbors have already come together bringing them clothes, diapers and baby formula. They have lived there for about 8 months and did have homeowners insurance. The Red Cross and Salvation Army are assisting the family.
